Creating World Transforming Communities of Faith

Would you or someone in your congregation host a 4-hour spiritual retreat?
The Spiritual Formation Steering Committee of the IAC Board of Discipleship has prepared a 4-hour retreat entitled "Spiritual Formation and the Psalms." The retreat has been offered several times, with 15-25 in attendance at each.

The retreat is designed to give a sampling of an Upper Room Academy for Spiritual Formation. It opens and closes with worship. There are two brief presentations, silence for reflection, and group sharing.

Host churches provide a snack or a light lunch during the break. There is no charge other than the church is asked to pay mileage for the presenters.

Consider offering this for your leadership team, for your adult Sunday school classes, or for several churches in your community or area.

District Day Apart - Discipleship Pathway - Thursday, February 1st - Cedar Rapids, Salem UMC
All are welcome to attend.

Jaymee Glenn-Burns and Phil Carver, our Field Outreach Ministers in eastern Iowa, will be leading a day apart on Thursday, Feb. 1 focusing on creating and strengthening the discipleship pathway practices of our churches. They will invite us to explore the characteristics of a disciple of Jesus and how our churches can be more intentional in deepening the discipleship of every member throughout their lives. Our time together will include both plenary presentations and small group conversations to help all participants begin to design—or further develop—a discipleship pathway that fits the context of their churches. We hope you can join us at the Salem United Methodist Church for this event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Our theme for the 2017 Iowa Annual Conference was “Creating Difference Makers: inspiring and equipping grace‐filled followers of Jesus Christ to make a difference wherever they are.” Creating, inspiring, equipping and celebrating United Methodist Difference Makers in the state of Iowa goes hand in hand with our Conference’s Wildly Important Goal (WIG) for each United Methodist Church in the IAUMC to have a Discipleship Pathway in place by 2020. The role of the church is to make disciples (on purpose!) and the role of disciples are to make a difference in the world, wherever they are.  On line-registration

Thanksgiving Ingathering Hunger Funds Grant Applications Available
As part of the Thanksgiving Ingathering held each year on the first Saturday of November, United Methodists gather at the five sites across Iowa to collect cash, kits, quilts for auction, and other items for missions in Iowa and across the world. A portion of the resulting and undesignated funds (income from quilts, for example) is returned to the eight districts to disburse as grants to combat hunger in our local communities. There is a modest sum of money available for use in the East Central District.

If your church is involved with a hunger project, you may apply for a portion of the available funds for that hunger-related project (such as a food pantry, sharing garden, or meal program). Remember, all money must be used for food or hunger-related programs. Please pass this notice along to anyone who might be interested in applying for these funds. The deadline for application is February 15, 2018. Funds will be distributed by the end of March.

To apply, please click here for the application.
